NCBCA Kerm Helmer Coach of the Year
The NCBCA Coach of the Year was first awarded following the completion of the 2000-01 season. The award was re-named in 2003 to the NCBCA Kerm Helmer Coach of the Year Award in honor of longtime Erie Community College coach Kerm Helmer, who lost his battle with cancer on Oct. 20, 2002. In February 2020, the NCBCA voted to rename the NCBCA Men's Coach of the Year Award in honor of Gordon Vadakin, the most successful coach in college bowling history.
The NCBCA Gordon Vadakin and Kerm Helmer Coaches of the Year are voted on by all members of the NCBCA. The NCBCA Awards Committee selects five nominees to be slated on the ballot, which is then sent out to all current members of the NCBCA. Like the NCBCA All American Teams, coaches rank order the five nominees and points are awarded based on the ranking on each ballot. The coaches with the most points will be named the NCBCA Gordon Vadakin and Kerm Helmer Coaches of the Year.
